Phonologies - The Voice of Technology

Phonologies is a start-up company incubated by IIT Bombay and started by a group of very enthusiastic engineers in 2001. The company mainly concentrates on open source technologies and initiatives.

Their flagship product Oktopous powers over 50,000 calls worldwide each day. They are looking aggressively to ramp up business and have invested in R&D initiatives to capture new businesses and unexplored Indian market. Those who wish to outsource their R&D activities or buy their products and/or their services can get in touch with them.

Their strength lies mainly in the areas of VoiceXML, IVR applications and solutions and their VoiceXML server.

They have a head office in Bombay and have recently opened an R&D center in Hyderabad. Wishing them all the luck for their ongoing business ventures and future endeavors.

I am very much thankful to the peer group who are behind the venture for guiding me in my life - both personal and professional. Cheers!!!

Sloka Telecom

I recently happened to visit an old acquaintance who happened to be the co-founder of a start-up company named Sloka Telecom.

First a few words about this guy. He is a versatile, multi-faceted personality, who has made a mark in academics, arts, writing articles, etc, etc around the world. He has been there and done that.

Sloka is basically a radio access network solutions provider. As per my understanding, they mainly concentrate on the Wimax market. More information can be found in the About section. The company has a patent pending architecture and has won many awards and recognitions.

I also happened to a get a hands-on look at their Wimax modem or access point (not sure if that's what its called). So, it basically had a standard RJ-45 connector to connect for high bandwidth Internet access. The modem has an FPGA and other hardware components.

Well, I wish them the best and hope they make a mark (if not done already :-)

My Mobile Magazine - An Intro

Recently during a jaunt, I happened to lay my hands on "My Mobile" magazine. This was a November 2010 issue. So, I guess the next issue is already out. Any way, the magazine has a caption "For a connected Lifestyle". It mainly caters to the mobile hoggers nay users in the Indian market. The cover story for the edition was "Safe Phones For a Safer You" which pointed out to some interesting statistics like, 10 million mobiles are sold every month in this country. I learned a few new terms like, SAR - which means "Specific Absorption Rate" and ARPU meaning - Average Revenue Per User. The most interesting part of the magazine for me was "My Guide" section where they had a review of a number of mobiles divided into different categories namely "Enterprise", "High-end", "Mid-level", "Entry-level" and "Sub-entry" level. Now, they reviewed a (hold your breath) whopping 308 models of mobile phones. These contained well-known models and some mobiles were from manufacturers I had never heard of before. I think that its a great guide for some one looking to buy or just has a keen interest in keeping up with the new mobiles coming into the market. Have a good time reading the magazine. Cheers!!!
