Speck Systems Hyderabad

Speck is a manufacturer of products, both hardware and software products for diverse fields like Opto-electronics, GIS, Military, etc. They also undertake projects from various Government and quasi-government organizations. They have been around for quite some time (close to 15 years) in the market. They are backed by a motley of people from all different walks of life, including ex-servicemen, ex-government officials, etc.

They develop software that is ruggedized computers, software, etc. that works inside tanks, high altitudes, different temperature zones, etc.

One of the good things about the organization is that they groom freshers by giving them opportunity to work on real-time projects. After the successful completion of the projects, most of them are absorbed into the work force.

With such a pedigree to boot, one would have thought they would sail through the recession years, but alas, they also had to grin and bear it - given the humongous allocation of yearly budget for the armed forces by the then Finance Minister.

Its head quarters are located in Hyderabad very near to some of the well-know PSUs (Public Sector Units) giving them the strategic edge to bag good orders. They also have operations and offices in many locations. They have won many accolades and recognitions over the years. They are a typical Indian corporate company and are finding it hard to compete with the MNC giants flowing towards India, especially Hyderabad.

I am hopeful that they come out of the recession effect and move forward and be successful. I wish Speck Systems and all the Speckians the best. Cheers!

MeeGo - Amigo

I recently came across MeeGo and became very interested in knowing what all the hoopla was about. What actually is MeeGo From the MeeGo.com site:

"MeeGo is an open source, Linux project which brings together the Moblin project , headed up by Intel, and Maemo, by Nokia, into a single open source activity. MeeGo integrates the experience and skills of two significant development ecosystems, versed in communications and computing technologies. The MeeGo project believes these two pillars form the technical foundations for next generation platforms and usages in the mobile and device platforms space."

Firstly, Moblin is an open source project focused on building a Linux-based platform optimized for the next generation of mobile devices including Netbooks, Mobile Internet Devices, and In-vehicle infotainment systems. (Also, you can look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moblin)

Secondly, Maemo is a software platform that is mostly based on open source code and powers mobile devices such as the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. Maemo platform has been developed by Nokia in collaboration with many open source projects such as the Linux kernel, Debian, GNOME and many more. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maemo)

Some important websites to get you started are,

There are an exciting number of job opportunities for developers, architects and others. Some hiring companies include:

Intel

Nokia

One of the most important features of this alliance and a quality that would make this project successful is that it is open source.

I am sure there would be a number of players big and small who would want a share of the pie.

So, say MeeGo amigos.
